Last night mr. strivingcynic and I headed back to the coffee place (Rockin’ Joe’s) where we had met for our first….meeting. He’s sort of amused that I consider it an anniversary….at the end of that first evening, he asked me out for the weekend (we went to lunch and a used bookstore). That might really be more first “date” like…but as I pointed out, that evening was the gateway!
After our dinner, we headed over to some comfy chairs for dessert….mr. sc had some sort of chocolate banana cake and I had red velvet cake. An amazing red velvet cake that is almost not to be believed…but, never fear, I have photos! [Some of them were taken by me, some by mr. sc, but the photo edit credit is his.]
Are you ready (food porn ahead)?
This was the kind of food that when I ordered it, the server got excited, especially when I told her I’d never had it before. And it was amazing…every bit of it held up..the cake, the frosting, the chocolate sauce, the little nonpareils that were sprinkled on the little pieces of chocolate on the top. Just amazing! And mr. sc didn’t even try a bite….I ate the whole thing, which took me a while (there was a point halfway through where I’d be taking the other half home…but I managed it). Then when we left, I showed mr. sc my gym…which, ironically, is several doors down (and I was back there this morning). A great [sort of] anniversary evening!
So, on a completely unrelated note (honestly, I chose this before last night’s red velvet encounter) I’ve selected my next book. It’s called the Chocolate Bridal Bash by JoAnna Carl. I got it at a “friends of the library” book sale a few months ago. I just checked on Amazon and saw it’s part of a mystery series…I generally like to start series at the beginning (makes sense, right?) and this is book 6. So, if I like it, I’ll work on reading the first five. It looks like a fun book (which I need after Georgiana). I’ll let you know!
Follow up: On another completely unrelated note, I forgot to announce how our strivingcynic household Oscars contest went! Well, strivingcynic teen and I tied for the lead with 50 points each (we each listed our top two choices…got 10 points if the first choice was correct, 5 points if the second was right…so sc teen and I each got two second choice [for me, it was the supporting categories], and the rest first choice, mr. sc missed one entirely and got one second choice…so we edged him out). Next year we’ll have to come up with some sort of tiebreaker category!
Does anyone want to confess to being totally jealous of my red velvet cake experience? Does anyone have a memorable dessert experience to share? Or an “the server was excited for me when I told him/her I’d never eaten that before” experience?
