top ten series I haven’t finished (or started)

It’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the folks at the Broke and the Bookish. This week: “Top Ten Series I Haven’t Finished (because either you didn’t like them, you just have procrastinated), etc.” Ha! Given the pile of reading I have, this one is easy…I haven’t finished most series just because I haven’t gotten around to it. But, let’s have a think…

Haven’t gotten around to it..

1-4. I have not read the latest books by the following authors. I own them…just haven’t gotten to them yet: Sue Grafton Alphabet series, Elizabeth George Inspector Lynley series, Anne Perry, William Monk series [Possibly the Pitt ones as well, hard to keep up), Janet Evanovich (well, I only read the Stephanie Plum series, but haven’t gotten to 18 yet…). In fact, I’m often prodded to read these authors when I’m in danger of getting two books behind.

OTHER REASONS

Lost interest:

5. The Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles. I started reading these as a teenager and just lost interest in them as an adult.

6. If the V.C. Andrews syndicate is still putting out work in her name…I had my teenage years Flowers in the Attic fixation, like lots of girls in the 80s…but when Andrews died in 1986 and her books kept coming and coming, I stopped reading them once I read the ones she wrote. I think I probably just grew out of them.

Author died so I hold off on reading one of her books so I’m not finished…

7. I started reading the Julian Kestrel series by Kate Ross after Ross’s early death at age 42 in the 90s. There are four Kestrel mysteries…I’ve read three and keep holding off on the fourth because I know it will be the last one. But I think I’ve owned the fourth for close to 10 years…so there’s a bit of a magical thinking/phobia going on there I think…

Still haven’t started.

8-10. J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series; Suzanne Collins Hunger Games trilogy; E. L. James 50 Shades series. I do want to read the first two series…not sure about 50 Shades, but I can see myself wanting to since it’s another one everyone else seems to have read. I am not adding the Twilight series since I’m not really interested in reading it.

What series aren’t you caught up on? Any that you’d like to tackle but haven’t?

  1. Hmm…I never heard of Kate Ross, but just looked up the books on B&N and the series looks interesting. There is a series from The Mistress of the Art of Death by Ariana Franklin. I’ve read the first (plus one other by her not in the series) and I enjoyed it (Them) I have the next two but just haven’t gotten to them yet. I’ve done Harry and Hunger games. Not interested in 50 Shades. I had the whole Twilight series, but ended up donating it to Good will. We’re so fickle sometimes, aren’t we?!

  2. i like the way you categorized this top ten list, zo! esp the “lost interest” one!
i just finished r is for ricochet by sue grafton. i had left off years and years ago around j or k and picked up r, randomly. i think i will continue on with s, t etc as it was entertaining reading! i did the same thing with stephanie plum – read most of the books but not all.
i miss the main character in 50 shades…i really grew fond of her! have no interest in hunger games or harry potter!

    • I am looking forward to reading V…I think I’ll pick that up in the next few months. Grafton has been pretty consistent (although I will say that in the s, t, u range…one I really wasn’t thrilled with and the other two were excellent).
I actually borrowed Hunger Games from my Dad last time I saw him. I’m going to have to read something light after finishing “The Little Friend” but think the Hunger Games will follow soon.

  3. Good morning!

I have also never read Harry Potter (maybe some day), only the first book of the Hunger Games, and on this road trip finally did book one of 50 Shades – holy smokes. I knew it was torrid, but somehow didn’t hear/get just how much so. I will probably finish the series more in a “train wreck” sort of way.

I maintain you are missing nothing but not reading Twilight. I remember when Anne Rice was the big deal too and wasn’t interested at all.

I laughed about the authors you read when you are getting behind in books. Some books just go fast. :)

  4. I am also so surprised when I see a reader who hasn’t read The Harry Potter Series (I live in a bubble). But I also get so excited that they get to experience it for the first time. I remember what that was like. I really hope you get to the series soon. I was late on The Hunger Games train as well. I only finished the series in July. They were ok.

    My Top Ten Tuesday

  5. I have all the Twilught books gathering dust, ^_^… I don’t know if I really want to read the series.

Anywho, I think you should read Harry Potter . You might want to know what made it tick, or why it became mega popular. One thing though, you missed the excitement of waiting for the next book. It was one heck of an experience, going to Borders at 10 PM, first day of sale, and coming home at 3 AM ! And looking for hints and clues whether Harry would live or die, I read each book 3x to look for clues ! !
